Catherine Ashley is a dynamic and vibrant harpist, comfortable in a multitude of genres including classical, rock, pop, folk/world, experimental and jazz, Catherine has made a name for herself as one of the most versatile harpists in Australia. Her broad experience has lead her to perform at thousands of weddings, corporate events, art galleries, funerals and other functions. Catherine has collaborated with a diverse range of musicians and has performed across Australia, as well as overseas.

Catherine completed a Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) under the direction of Anthony Maydwell. In 2012 Catherine was invited to attend the International Harp Workshop (Italy), Catrin Finch Academy Summer School (Wales) and International Harp Summer School (England) where she studied under world renowned harpists.

Catherine performs with Australian Jazz harpist Michelle Smith in the duo “Duelling Harps”. The duo have performed their sell-out show “Classical vs. Jazz: The Ultimate Harp Battle” at Perth Fringe World (2013 and 2014), Melbourne Fringe Festival (2013) and Adelaide Fringe Festival (2014), and were twice nominated for an RTRfm Music Award. The two harpists are in high demand to perform their unique ideas of musical fusion, and in 2014 were invited to perform at the 12th World Harp Congress in Sydney.

Catherine and flautist Therese Lowdin (Sweden) were the recipients of the 2008 ECKO Investments Chamber Music Award, and now perform regularly as The Aeolus Ensemble. The ensemble’s versatile repertoire and outstanding musicianship means that they are in high demand for commercial events. The Aeolus Ensemble are currently recording their first album of music for flute and harp for release in 2015.
