Junkadelic Brass Band

Junkadelic Brass Band
Junkadelic was founded in 2002 as a junk percussion group, and quickly grew to become a stage-based funk band, adding a horn section in 2010. Today, Junkadelic Brass Band draws on strong influences New Orleans street music culture, combining traditional second line grooves with horn parts reminiscent of James Brown and Sly and the Family Stone. This emphasis on original big band writing and arranging, combined with a long history in community engagement, workshops and collaborations, has taken the band all over Australia, performing at major community festivals such as Fairbridge Festival and Nannup Music Festival.

In 2015 Junkadelic was invited as an artist in residence at the inaugural Honk Oz festival in Wollongong, NSW, which led to an invitation to perform at Seattle’s beloved Honk Fest West festival, undertaking a post-festival tour through Washington, Oregon and California. Junkadelic recently performed a sold-out season of their show Voodoo You Think You Are at Fringe World, leading to a nomination for a Music and Musicals award.

The group is also passionate about bringing music and creative skillbuilding to the remote corners of Australia, with residences at the Salvage Katherine Festival of Junk Arts (Northern Territory) and Gascoyne in May Festivals both a highlight.

Providing everything from roving acoustic performance, to interactive workshops, to a full blown stage show - Perth-based funk machine Junkadelic combines a smoking hot brass section with a hard-hitting recycled percussion section for sweet street beats to get you down on the dance floor.

Testimonial - The West Australian, February 2016

"Perth is pretty lucky to have the Junkadelic Brass Band"

Testimonial - Theaker von Ziarno, Carnarvon

"I can not give Junkadelic enough accolades, their passion, belief and execution of art is excellent – they are consummate community art workshop facilitators who successfully engage entire spectrum of the community in quality large scale spectacle; from concept, design and on to actuation. They are also a wonderful funk band with many configurations."
