Courtney Murphy & Murphy’s Lore

Courtney Murphy & Murphy’s Lore
Courtney Murphy and Murphy’s Lore are one of Australia’s most experienced and respected pop/rock bands. With a history spanning two decades and countless performances both international and local, Murphy's Lore deserve their famous reputation and are highly regarded by industry leaders.

The three Murphy brothers formed the band Murphy's Lore in 1991 and the band began performing their own material around South West WA. Murphy's Lore began working regularly at functions, fairs and then in hotels. The band won the 1993 School Music Awards, a feat which garnered much attention from local media. At this stage, Courtney, the youngest member, was still only thirteen. Spurred by this success, the group moved to Perth in 1996 where they consolidated their reputation as one of WA's best up and coming acts. The band featuring Courtney (piano/vocals), Kieran Murphy (drums/vocals), Jason Smith (guitar), Clayton Bolger (guitar/vocals) and Shaun Street (bass/vocals) have since proven themselves as consistent quality performers in the local and international hotel circuit as well numerous outdoor festivals, community events and corporate functions.

In 2004, Courtney entered the second season of Australian Idol. Courtney became a national celebrity almost overnight, the show rated even higher than the first season and when he finally left the competition a respectable third behind pint-sized crooner Anthony Callea and winner Casey Donovan he set to work forging his niche as a songwriter and artist in his own right.

In 2005, Courtney joined the stellar cast of Grease: The Arena Spectacular alongside John Farnham, Craig McLachlan, Magda Szubanski and former Neighbours star and Rogue Trader’s singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte, “blazing his sweet, deep voice” (The Age) and demonstrating natural acting abilities to both critical and audience acclaim. Courtney has tread the boards regularly since then whilst regularly appearing and performing for special events and telecasts including the ABC’s ‘Spicks and Specks’. His long awaited solo album will be released in the latter half of 2008.

Courtney and Murphy's Lore have forged an excellent reputation as corporate entertainers with outstanding musicianship, impassioned live shows and a touch of celebrity.
