We’d like to introduce you to Perth’s latest, up and coming Brazilian Samba troup – the Bassonovas! If you need excitement, noise and a loud attraction for your next community event, then look no further! In February 2007, the Town of Bassendean contracted Samba guru, Richy Glasgow (founder of the Sambanistas) and current Musical Director, Maria Daniels (former Co-Musical Director of Sambanistas) to create this new and unique Samba percussion band.

Within 4 weeks, the Bassonovas did 6 school percussion workshops and a fantastic performance at the Bassendean Multicultural Food Festival in March. Maria (who has 8 years experience in Samba music) is now the sole Musical Director of the group and they continue to thrive as a local community percussion band, offering a loud colourful, carnival atmosphere to any event!

The Bassonovas can be a team of 7 or more drummers, who perform up to 30 minutes of traditional Samba rhythms from Brazil. These rhythms are guaranteed to make you dance, smile and have fun! A performance can be either roving, parading or still and customised to suit your needs. No amplification is needed and we will certainly rev up the crowd!

Percussion workshops cater for up to 40 people and all instruments are supplied. Classes range from 60 to 90 mins and are offered to anyone from the ages of 7 – 75, with no experience necessary! All you need is fun attitude and a friendly smile! The rhythms and methods we teach - are simple, constructive and easy to follow. At the end of the session, you will be amazed at the over all sound!
