Cello Diva - Sally Maer

Cello Diva - Sally Maer
Sally has an affinity with the passionate and emotive music she plays. From Bach to Bon Jovi, Cello Diva performances encompass not only a diversity of exquisite music, but also stories, chat… and sometimes the occasional gag. Sally is accompanied on piano, harp or guitar. Performing with an informal approach in cabaret style gives Sally the space to express herself. Both her kaleidoscope of musical experience and her effervescent personality come across in her performances.

Sally’s exciting musical experiences and her infectious passion for the cello has resulted in her being in demand to perform across Australia. Sally performed as “Cello Diva” in all the major concert halls in Australia during a tour as the support act for the British popera sensation ‘Amici’ including Adelaide Festival Theatre, Melbourne Arts Centre's Hamer Hall, Queensland Performing Arts Centre Concert Hall, Newcastle Civic Theatre, Canberra Theatre and the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall.

Sally has headlined her own show at The Spiegeltent in Melbourne, she performs regularly at His Majesty’s Theatre in Perth, she has shared concerts with the Bel Canto Opera Company in Adelaide, hosted her own show at Sydney’s Bar Me, as well as being invited to attend various festivals across the country such as the Melbourne Quiet Music Festival and Fremantle Street Arts Festival, where she was able to demonstrate her skill of playing in the most unlikely of venues to great success!

Sally is an honours graduate of The Royal Academy of Music, London and after moving to Australia in the 1990’s, she has worked with the West Australian Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Australian Opera and Ballet, as well as various chamber ensembles including the Peter Sculthore String Quartet who she traveled to Gallipoli with in 2005 to perform at the Dawn Service on Anzac Day. Sally has accompanied a great range of artists in groups large and small from Hugh Jackman in Boy from Oz to Kanye West on his Australian tour. She has worked more closely and in a solo capacity with Delta Goodrem, Anthony Callea, Wendy Matthews and Ian Moss.

It is in Sally’s solo Cello Diva performances that she is in her element. A Cello Diva performance is the result of a life led with eyes wide open and a heart full of music.
