Toogar Morrison - Aboriginal Artist

Toogarr Morrison is a Noongar Aboriginal Elder artist of note. His work appears prominently throughout the state of Western Australia, often commissioned by Councils and Communities, as well as Corporates. BBC are delighted to offer Toogarr commissions to our event clients – with acrylic canvas commissions available within 4-5 weeks of appointment.

Toogarr is also available to provide live painting demonstrations, along with sample displays of his work for guests to inspect and take inspiration from. Toogarr is a wonderful elder statesman for his people, and delights in sharing his culture, art and wisdom with people of all ages, and all cultures.

His performance flexibility spans beyond the traditional canvas medium. Toogarr was commissioned at the Survival Concert Australia Day 2001, to create a living painting. He started work at six o'clock in the morning, and spend all day making a huge sand painting on the lawn of the Esplanade overlooking the Swan River. For Toogarr Morrison, the Swan River holds a lot of traditional significance because his family come from this area. The giant sand painting included 5 to 6 different colors of sand spiraling out from a centre piece like spokes of a wheel. Toogarr performed traditional dance moves as he set about creating this artwork, singing out whilst moving around the circle. Wadumbah played very eerie spiritual didgeridoo and called out in Aboriginal language telling the story about creation, the stories about the settlers, and in the end the stories about everyone living together in peace and harmony. At the end of that performance, the old fella Toogarr jumps up and calls everyone in to dance upon the artistic sands – and it’s gone in 5 mins, back to mother earth, enjoyed by all.
