Slim Jim & PHATTS Inc continue the hard-working entertainment tradition created by Slim Jim & the FATTS Band, debuting in 1986.  

Slim Jim & PHATTS Inc celebrate their 36th Anniversary in the Western Australian Music Industry 2022.  

Slim Jim & PHATTS Inc is a seven-piece band of elite entertainers and musicians performing classic hits from the 60’s to current Top 40. The PHATTS song list includes a broad array of music genres - pop, rock, soul, disco, rhythm & blues, latin, country and blues.

For thirty-six years, Jamie “Slim Jim” Mercanti has been fronting one of the most successful cover bands in Western Australian music history.  Slim Jim has performed more than 7 500 gigs throughout Western Australia – setting a precedent within the local music industry for professionalism and demand.

The FATTS/PHATTS have created house attendance records at many venues throughout WA, including the Silver Slipper (Nedlands), the Ocean Beach Hotel (Cottesloe), Plaistowes Bar (West Perth), the Coronado (Nedlands), the Brewery Alehouse (Nedlands), the Boulevard Alehouse (Victoria Park), the Babylon (Victoria Park), the Breakwater Tavern (Hillarys), the Kalgoorlie Hotel / Judd’s Pub, Trafalgar’s (Bunbury), the Dunsborough Hotel, The Bog Northbridge and the Aberdeen Hotel.

In 1988, Slim Jim & the FATTS Band received five nominations at the Western Australian Rock Music Industry Awards - including “Most Popular Band”.  In the same year, Slim Jim was nominated in the “Most Popular Entertainer” category.  

In 1994, a reader’s poll in “The West Australian” newspaper voted Slim Jim & the FATTS Band as the “Most Popular Commercial Rock Band in WA”.

“Live at the OBH” was Slim Jim & the FATTS Band’s debut album.  It was the highest selling independently released album for 1988.  The album successfully captured the spirit of an audience supporting their favourite local band at their favourite local venue.

Slim Jim & the FATTS Band were the resident band on “Basil’s Footy Show” (Channel 7) between 1999 - 2001.  This popular local football panel show had an average weekly audience of over 350,000 viewers throughout Western Australia.  The Basil’s Footy Show panellists included Adrian Barich, Karl Langdon, Scott Watters, Shaun McManus, Chris Mainwaring, Peter Sumich, Heath Black, Scott Cummings and host - Basil Zempilas.  

Slim Jim (and the various FATTS’ line-ups) has shared the stage with some of Australia’s finest artists; including Skyhooks, Mental As Anything, The Rockmelons, The Jets, Zep Boys, Mark Callaghan (GANGAjang), The Angels, The Divinyls, Big Pig, Hunters & Collectors, Frankie J Holden’s Big Night Out, James Reyne, Simon Gallaher, Julie Anthony, Hugh Jackman, Doug Parkinson, Daryl Braithwaite, Matt Taylor, Wendy Stapleton, The Velvet Janes, Kevin “Bloody” Wilson, Russell Morris, Brian Cadd, Jimmy Barnes, The Black Sorrows, Dan Sultan, Leo Sayer, Sir Bob Geldof, Dick Haynes (Loaded Dice), Karnivool, Jenny Morris, Normie Rowe, Anthony Callea, The Drifters, Diesel, Rick Price, Vanessa Amarosi, the Hoodoo Gurus, Rhonda Burchmore, Marina Prior, Tom Burlinson, Jon English, Geoff Harvey, Wilber Wilde and Pseudo Echo.

After 36 years, Slim Jim & PHATTS Inc are still in demand - performing regularly to enthusiastic audiences at licensed premises (pubs, tavern and nightclubs) throughout WA, corporate events, special events, private functions and outdoor concerts.

The current line-up of Slim Jim & PHATTS Inc features the Courtney Hough (vocals & guitar), Neil Colliss (lead guitar & vocals), Nando Ellul (tenor saxophone & percussion), Shaun Davis (keyboards & vocals), Chris Brennand (bass & vocals), Chris Webber (drums & programming) and Jamie “Slim Jim” Mercanti (vocals, guitars & mandolin).
